More than 30 Team Red, White and Blue (RWB) veterans will come together from around the country and converge just outside of Tampa, FL for the 3nd annual Team RWB Yoga Veteran Athletic Camp on September 25- 28th.
The Yoga camp is one of six veteran Athletic Camps that Team RWB is conducting this year. The Veteran Athletic Camps are tremendous opportunities for veterans to learn a new sport/activity that they can take home to their local chapter in a leadership capacity. They are led and coached by world-class athletes and renowned experts, and are designed to inspire veterans to commit to their own health and fitness. Veterans who are passionate about the mission of Team RWB and are actively involved in their local chapter are nominated to attend the camps by their chapter leadership.
The attendees will expand or be introduced to a yoga skill set that leads towards a healthy lifestyle. The attendees come from a diverse background of experiences and capabilities, but all share the desire to learn, bond, and better themselves and others. Veteran athletes will use the skills developed to begin participating in yoga workouts in their communities and build the foundation to later teach other veterans and concerned citizens in their community.
The theme of the yoga camp this year is "Balance"—a physical, mental, and lifestyle balance through yoga. Along with the core yoga classes and posture clinic, attendees will receive instruction in nutrition, and Justin Ahrens, author and Principal/Creative Director of Rule29 will be presenting the concept of Life Kerning. A very important addition to this camp is the three-segment leadership development course. This course, which will be delivered by Team RWB leader Chris Widell, will cover the basics of leadership and give the camp participants the knowledge and tools needed to help create stronger veterans, stronger communities, and a stronger Team RWB organization.
Barry Peterson, West Point graduate, instructor at University of Nevada – Reno, and certified Bikram Yoga instructor, is returning for the 2nd year of the camp. He will be leading the yoga classes amongst a team of certified instructors and teachers volunteering their time and expertise for the weekend.
