Over Memorial Day Weekend, a team of runners from the Columbus/Fort Benning, GA chapter ran 260 miles Across Georgia in memory of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. The journey began early Morning on Saturday, May 27th for running teams; however, individual runners began early morning on Wednesday, May 23rd. While the chapters 11 runner team completed their journey in 36 hours crossing the finish line with a large crowd, cheers, and food, two runners were still out there. Two veterans on individual journeys did not make it to the fanfare-less finish line until late evening on May 29th. What is most memorable is that a message via Facebook went out to call all Eagles available to receive these two veterans.  Eagles delivered. While those last two runners tracked their last 10 miles, members from our chapter assembled to guide, accompany, and cheerfully wait for them where the finish line would have been. This Memorial Day weekend, I’m proud to be a member of a family of heroes who are willing to provide unwavering support to those who have served.
