Overall Purpose

The Regional Director is responsible for the overall operations, including effective execution of our two programs, Chapter & Community Program and Eagle Leadership Development Program, within their specific region (7-10 states).  Regional Directors report to the Chief Operations Officer and lead a regional staff that is comprised of both Program Managers and volunteer leaders.  Excellence requires building and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders (employees, volunteers, peers, donors, community partners, etc.), tracking and influencing programmatic outcomes, effective utilization of budget, working with support staff and leading from the front.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

People Leadership:


  • Lead, manage, develop, recognize, and motivate assigned Team RWB staff, fellows and volunteers
  • Lead from the front in your region and in your community; regularly participate with your local chapter
  • Provide timely, consistent, and effective guidance to staff, fellows and volunteers, using key performance indicators
  • Administer impactful training and leadership development curriculum to our employees and volunteers


Program Leadership: 

  • Ensure accurate & timely collection of key performance metrics & data; leverage data for decision-making, adjust operations to meet organizational goals
  • Manage regional budget; supervise effective administration of chapter budgets
  • Ensure effective execution of national, regional and local events in assigned region
  • Deploy strategies to increase veteran engagement in the region, responsible for veteran outreach
  • Tell your region’s story, leverage social media to engage region and amplify marketing efforts
  • Utilize and ensure utilization of Salesforce and other technologies to measure and drive programmatic effectiveness


Strategic Leadership:

  • Embrace speaking and writing opportunities to contribute to the “veteran conversation” and to advance Team RWB’s work
  • Effectively work with HR, Marketing, Finance, Advancement and Technology support staff to maximize organizational outcomes


Partner Management (External Customers):

  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with partner organizations (donors, other veteran service organizations, etc.)
  • Understand and fulfill grant commitments in the region


A fully qualified candidate shall possess the following attributes: 

  • 5+ years of demonstrated leadership experience with a record of operational excellence
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Experience managing complex, multi-faceted projects
  • Commitment to accomplishing the Team RWB mission and living the Eagle Ethos
  • Proclivity for action; ability to be productive with minimum guidance and supervision while working in a kinetic environment
  • Strong social and emotional intelligence; strong and consistent self-awareness
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, time-management skills and ability to excel and lead in a dispersed staffing environment
  • Ability to effectively manage with a variety of stakeholders
  • Willingness to leverage social media and data as a leadership tool
  • Must embrace physical fitness/challenges and be willing to lead and participate in fitness events
  • Prior military service in a senior leadership role highly preferred, especially when combined with successful post-military leadership experience
  • Willingness to travel 30-40% of the time; some weekend and evening work is required


This is a telework position. Candidates must reside in Chicago, IL, or surrounding area.
