Running Club North holds Social and Awards Banquet

FAIRBANKS — Owen Merril was named Most Inspirational Runner, Stacy Fisk was awarded Race Director of the Year and Ron and Chris Oliver, as well as Team RWB, were recognized as Volunteers of the Year on Saturday at the Running Club North Social and Awards Banquet.

The banquet held at the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center also contained a presentation by Lisa Herbert, vice president of public relations at Usibelli Coal Mine Inc., who gave RCN a check for $8,000 for the 2018 Usibelli Running Series.

The 12 women and 13 men who competed in each of the eight Usibelli Running Series races during 2017 were presented with commemorative shirts.

Dylan Nixon-Helms, Juan Bonnet, John Huffer, Jacob Parker and Nicholas Janssen were named the Usibelli Running Series’ top five men’s competitors. Davya Flaharty, Dorli McWayne, Erika Burr, Erika Van Flein and Kimberly Fitzgerald received the same recognition as the top women’s finishers.

Tom Moran was honored as the Northern Trails Running Series top male runner, while Simon McLoughlin and Jacob Parker also were recognized for finishing second and third. Brook Lizotte, Oralee Nudson and Flaharty were named the top three women.

Nudson and Bob Vitale were given commemorative jackets for being the only two people who have completed every Northern Trails Running Series races each year since the series began 10 years ago.

The top three male and female racers from each age group also received medals.
