Saturday Spotlight – Angel Cuellar
Chapter: Mid-Atlantic Region/Richmond VA
Motto: “When I feel like giving up, I think about all those that can no longer do the things they love to do and dig deep and give it my all for them.”
Why Did You Join Team RWB?
“I joined Team RWB to connect with other people that could relate to what being a Veteran and Military Spouse is all about. To have camaraderie at events and races. There is something powerful that just wearing an Eagle shirt at an event does, it creates friendships with people who you’ve never met before. When you wear the Eagle, you are never alone.”
What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?
“The 2016 Mid-Atlantic Eagle Leadership Triathlon Camp has been my favorite Team RWB Experience. I got to learn more about what being an Eagle Leader is all about, formed amazing friendships with other Eagles throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region, and do what I love – Triathlons.”
How do you serve your community?
“Currently I am the Veteran Engagement Director for the Richmond Chapter. We are working on initiatives to try and reach more Veterans in our area and are constantly working on creating events that engage a wide variety of different interests. As the weather gets warmer, it is also my intent to host more cycling and triathlon clinics for our area.”
What Inspires You?
“I am inspired by people who never give up despite what life throws their way. You do not have to be the best, but those that have the drive and passion to do what they love no matter what is what inspires me to never give up, to believe in the impossible, chase my dreams, and hope that while I’m doing so I will in turn inspire others to do the same.”
How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?
“Team RWB has impacted my life in so many ways. Being a part of Team RWB helped me and my family transition during our PCS move. I knew no one in VA and the local members welcomed me with open arms and helped me with anything I needed. I found friends just as crazy as I am, that love to challenge themselves. In 2017 a few other Eagles and I trained and completed our first Ultra Marathon together! They motivated and encouraged me throughout my Ironman training as well, giving me company on my long workouts so I never felt alone.”
What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?
“That they have nothing to lose and everything to gain!! There is no commitment required to join Team RWB, but they will gain friendships, form connections throughout their community, and have a blast participating in fun events both social and sports related.”
