Why Did You Join Team RWB?
“For years after leaving the military, I felt like I couldn’t connect with others, so I focused mostly on my career. Almost a decade later, I realized I’d forgotten who I was and decided to get back to living by volunteering in my community. I reached out to several organizations offering to help, and Team RWB was the only organization that returned my emails! I joined Team RWB because they welcomed me. I thought I was joining to serve others. My very first event, I realized how much I needed to be an Eagle.”
What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?
“Oh my gosh – so many! But, since I have to pick one, I pick the Texas Independence Relay in 2013. This was the first year Team RWB was the charitable beneficiary, and it was so much work (and no sleep) managing the volunteers who manned the 39 aid stations along the 200 mile route. But, I met so many Eagles and people who became Eagles that weekend. Many of the people I met that weekend have become very close friends. Close second, the Brene Brown Conference in 2014 where some amazing ladies and I gained our Marbles :)”
How do you serve your community?
“Besides my work and volunteer activities with Team RWB, I foster dogs for K-9 Angels Rescue. We have a ridiculously large number of homeless and abandoned dogs in the Houston area. Most of our dogs are pulled off the euthanasia list at the Harris County Animal Shelter. We bring them home, nurse them back to health and teach them how to be pets. Then we network with friends and family to find them great homes. I focus primarily on the young puppies three months old and younger. It’s such rewarding work to see the love and joy these animals bring to their new homes!”
What Inspires You?
“I am inspired by people who set and accomplish goals. People who are smart, passionate, and generous with their time. People who are kind. They make me want to work harder at being who I want to be.”
How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?
“I first came to Team RWB hoping to help. And I did. But, more importantly, I found a group of friends who later became my family. When I was hired as a Regional Director, Team RWB became my purpose – the most challenging and rewarding purpose I’ve ever had!”
What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?
“You’ll only get out of it what you put into it. Be open to new people and experiences, and you won’t be disappointed!”
