Chapter: Team RWB National

Why Did You Join Team RWB?

“I joined Team RWB because I quickly realized the significant impact that the organization was making in the lives of our veterans. Supporting veterans in as many ways as possible has been, and always will be, my life’s work. I wanted to be part of something bigger than myself and I wanted to be a part of a team again. Back in 2013, I was just beginning to realize that my life was missing something, and most importantly, something that I needed to cope with life after the military. Over 5 years later, I have received far more than I could have ever imagined since joining the team.”

What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?

“There have been so many wonderful experiences, I would be hard pressed to select just one as a favorite. I set a goal for myself at the beginning of last year to run my first (and last) marathon, and I selected the Pittsburgh Marathon as my race. After training for months, marathon day came and I was ready to check this goal off my list. The weather was perfect (50 degrees and overcast), my body felt good through the entire course, and I had a great race experience. As I was heading down the Boulevard of the Allies towards the finish line, I couldn’t help but notice a large group of Eagles from our chapter, on my right, waiting to cheer for me through the finish line! This made my race 10 times better!!”

How do you serve your community?

“I recently stepped down as the Chapter Captain of the Pittsburgh Chapter, where I served for the past 2.5 years. Serving as the CC for Pittsburgh has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding positions that I have ever had in my life. I earned exactly zero dollars in this volunteer role, but I have become so rich by serving in this role. Far more than I could effectively describe to you here. It has been such a blessing to me. In this role, I have been presented with many challenges, but those have been far outweighed by all the opportunities. Opportunities for personal and professional growth, opportunities to participate in some very cool events and experiences, and opportunities to build some wonderful relationships with so many amazing people, many of which have grown to become some of my closest friends.”

What Inspires You? How has Team RWB impacted your life?

“Volunteer Eagle Leaders inspire me. They are the blood of Team RWB and they have the ability to influence and impact so many members in their local communities. Many of them do this while maintaining full-time jobs, attending college, and supporting their families, amongst countless other obligations and responsibilities. Their passion for our members and the commitment they display week in and week out is unparalleled. They motivate and inspire me to keep fighting the good fight and being an advocate for our veterans.”

What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?

“Enriching Veterans Lives is hard to see or quantify, but you can certainly feel it when it happens. I tell people all the time that you have to feel it, at least just once. If I can be influential enough to get them to come out at least one time, they usually become active members of their local chapters.”
