Chapter: Northwest/Boise

Member Since: Jan 2018

Motto: “Do the things that are hard, challenge yourself. In time, you will reap the rewards.”

Why Did You Join Team RWB?

“I am a Navy veteran and have been living in the Boise area for years. I was looking for a way to connect with other people when my path intersected with a member of the chapter. He presented Team RWB as an option to meet people and get involved. I pursued his suggestion and am incredibly grateful I did! Team RWB has the capacity to offer those who are veterans or veteran minded a community of people who want to get involved, care about their fellow teammates, and provide a sense of camaraderie. It has been uplifting and has given me a sense of belonging!”

What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?

“Thus far, my passion has been Saturday Yoga, and is closely followed by our mid-week run/walk/ruck activities. Yoga offers me a sense of peace, gratitude and overall well being. Our run/walk/rucks allow each member to go fast or slow, depending on their individual need and ability. All of our activities give us a chance to chat and get to know one another, and it’s always a “feel good” after!”

How do you serve your community?

“My main responsibility with Team RWB is to write the monthly newsletter, welcome letter, and handle other correspondence that occurs between the team and the members. I love having the ability to reach out to others, and as time passes, I’m looking forward to getting to know more members and see our chapter grow! For my day job, I work with special needs children and teach them how to advocate for themselves and how to work beyond the confines of their limitations. I am so lucky to get to work with such incredible, optimistic, intelligent, and talented kids! No matter what you do, look outside of the box to see what’s out there!”

What Inspires You?

“People inspire me. We never stop learning. Life is evolving, even when we get stuck. If you can, stop for a moment, and hear what those around you have to say, or see what they are doing. It can be incredibly enlightening. Veterans have life experience that goes beyond themselves, yet sometimes, those experiences halter their ability to reach out. Reach out to those around you and listen. Sometimes all someone wants is to be heard.”

How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?

“Team RWB has offered me a stepping stone. It has given me a chance to move forward, to connect and to reach out. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities it presents. Connection between people is a necessity for living. It’s our bond with those around us that makes us feel alive and helps us process the challenges with which we are presented. That’s the mission of Team RWB, to connect with one another. It doesn’t disappoint!”

What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?

“Do it! I come from a place of low pressure and believe people need to take steps when they are ready. Personally, I would encourage anyone who is looking to connect with their community, and with others, to check it out! Patience is important. Take it one day at a time, and before you realize it, your boundaries will have expanded and your comrades grown. You will find yourself among a community that supports and treasures what you have to offer!”
