Chapter: Team RWB Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

Motto: “I never lose; either I win or I learn.”

Why Did You Join Team RWB?

“I was invited in 2014 to en event with the Fort Leonard Wood Chapter by then Chapter Captain Nii. I remember telling him “I don’t run but I’ll come check it out.” It would take a few weeks but I came out to my first RWB event, it was a BBQ at a local park. I instantly felt welcome. Everyone was very friendly and had a genuine interest in talk to you. I knew then I had found a group of people I wanted to get to know more. Back to the “I don’t run”, you get drawn in and find yourself wanting to get better and push yourself to do more. I would be a couple month later I found myself running a 1/2 marathon and 1 year later completing a 50k. Doing something I would have never done had it not been for the Eagles of RWB and the push to make yourself better and enrich your life.”

What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?

“One of my favorite memories with team RWB was with Jared, my 3 year old son, We were going to our monthly pub run with the Fort Leonard Wood Chapter. Before we left the house he had to put on his Eagle shirt like dad and black shorts so we matched. He was so excited to wear his Eagle and loves seeing everyone else wearing their Eagle. Once we arrived at the pub run he decided he wanted to run with me. As we took off running, thinking he would run a very short distance and stop, I kept asking him if he wanted to stop and walk and he would just simply say no and keep running. After sometime we made it to the half way point where my wife was waiting to turn people around. He ran an entire 1/2 mile! Seeing my family have the same passion about the organization as I do means a lot. It takes being a member of Team RWB to a different level when it is something your family can enjoy and be part of too!”

How Do You Serve Your Community?

“I am currently the Chapter Captain for Team RWB Fort Leonard Wood. Through this amazing opportunity I have been able to participate in a lot of local activities such as parades, visiting veterans homes, connecting with local gyms and businesses and enriching our local community.

What Inspires You?

“I am inspired by helping others. Seeing other Veteran and Community members reaching goals and surpassing what they thought was not possible. To be able to assist them and push them in turn inspires me to become a better person and to push myself to new limits.”

How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?

“Team RWB has made a huge impact in not only my life but the life of my family. If you would have asked me three years ago if I wanted to go to the gym or go for a run, I probably would have laughed at you. Now I find that I hate missing days at the gym. I actually enjoy going for runs, especially when I have someone to talk to along the way. My family has grown through Team RWB and even made us a little competitive in the gym. We are doing a lot of events together and now serving on the leadership team at the local level. My children love being around members of Team RWB and through meeting other children have helped with social interaction and positive relationships. The friendships that I have found through Team RWB have been very encouraging. I have made some great friends at the local chapter. Friendships that push each other, hold each other accountable, and people you can call when you just need to talk.

What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?

“If you are on the fence or maybe you joined and have yet to attend your first event, I would say GO FOR IT! It has been one of the best choices I have made. I promise you that you will wish you would have made the choice sooner. There is not a better group of people to be around!
