Why Did You Join Team RWB?
“An Eagle invited me to come hang out in a relaxed, informal coffee setting to hang out with him and his fiancee and their dog. I was seeking new friendships in my new home town and not having any luck building relationships. But from that very first coffee, I felt right at home. No judgements, no cliques, no expectations except to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Joining was a no-brainer after that; I had found my tribe.”
What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?
“You’d think that Tulsa’s #WalkaboutWednesday would be my favorite considering I lead it. But Eagles Eat really is the highlight of each month. EVERYONE shows up for this one. We eat. We laugh. We talk and we listen. Sure, we do those things at all events. But sharing a meal like this really makes us feel like family.”
How do you serve your community?
“I’m first and foremost a rucker or ruck athlete. I dislike running with a passion. Leading weekly rucks is like a mission for me. By leading a weekly ruck, I hope to spread the good news that you can burn off unwanted body fat, stay limber and strong, and enjoy the great outdoors, all without threatening aging knees! And outdoors can mean wilderness trails, urban paths, city streets or even indoor area; few places are off limits when you are just walking. Veterans often need to keep moving. A lot of them like the idea of rucking for fitness. And this activity works equally for friends & family as well.”
What Inspires You?
“Seeing other people excel at something they have been working towards for long periods of time. Team RWB has opened up my own exposure to other people’s dreams, goals & desires. Since we are so diverse, I get to cheer on the 5k runner up to the marathoner, the cyclist, the Walker, the rucker and even the non-athletes in our group like the artists, the technicians, the business men & women. I get to hear stories of their struggles and success. Seeing them dream, work, struggle and overcome gives me confidence to try harder, dream bigger, reach higher.”
How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?
“As I said before, I was trying to establish myself in a new town. Truth be told, I had been in Tulsa for 9 months, had remained active in various groups and gatherings, but only had 1 new friend that I could actually call on. Now, 18 months later, I have a whole host of friends, activities that I look forward to every day of every week, and responsibilities to keep me active and plugged in. Team RWB Tulsa really did save me from loneliness & an oncoming depression.”
What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?
“Come out to any activity. Give us a chance to make you smile. Plug into the group and see if we are the tribe of like minded people you didn’t know you needed. If one activity doesn’t fit your lifestyle, fitness level or social interactiveness, wait 24 hours and try another/different activity.”
