Saturday Spotlight – Samantha Gibbar
Chapter: Joint Base MDL, NJ
Motto: “Keep an open mind and a positive attitude every day.”
Why Did You Join Team RWB?
“I heard about Team RWB while listening to a podcast, and I knew it would be a great way for me to meet people. I moved from Wisconsin to New Jersey not knowing anyone but my husband, so I knew I needed a social outlet. I’ve wound up making friends in my own unit, in other branches, and even in my own neighborhood.”
What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?
“Organizing my first event, Eagle Charge 2018, was a challenge but so incredibly rewarding when we had a large turnout. It was the first Eagle Charge for our chapter so we weren’t sure what to expect. We had walkers, runners, and bikers, and even though it was very hot, everyone had a great attitude and was fired up which made it all worth it.”
How do you serve your community?
“I serve my community every week when Team RWB joins with my local running group, Burlington Running Club. I interact with local citizens and spread the message of what Team RWB is all about. We also get to meet Team members that don’t come onto base and make even more of a community connection.”
What Inspires You?
“The military is my biggest inspiration to live my best life. Being in the Air National Guard has proven to me that I should never limit myself and that I am capable of anything as long as I have the right mindset and put in the work. It inspires me to never limit myself and to help others to see their own potential.”
How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?
“Team RWB has given me friendships both on and off base. The fact that I moved across the country and now have people I can call or text if I need advice or just need to chat is invaluable. It has also brought me closer to my community and my own neighborhood in a way that may not have otherwise ever been possible.”
What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?
“You will love Team RWB and the sense of community it brings through social and physical interaction. You will make new and lifelong friends and you’ll get to know your community in a more personal way. You won’t regret joining once you come out to your first event!”
