Saturday Spotlight – Sarah Robb
Chapter: Midwest / Team RWB Detroit
Member Since: April 2015
Motto: Be your best self, you do you!
Why Did You Join Team RWB?
“I joined Team RWB because I wanted to reconnect with the Veteran community. After separating from the military in 2013, I removed myself entirely from the family I knew because I thought it would help in the transition. Looking back I think it did the exact opposite. After moving away from my home state to Michigan, I felt like I was missing a big part of who I am and the person I had become. In an effort to get more involved in my community, find inner balance, meet new people, and still satisfy my need to be active, I signed up with Team RWB Ann Arbor.”
What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?
“While recalling some memories we shared, another Eagle put it best when he said, “There is nothing like an RWB memory.” My favorite experiences are New Year’s Eve 2015 and a small group trip that chapters in Michigan took to run a GORUCK Kill event in Chicago. Our “alternative” eve was perhaps the most fun I’ve had ringing in the new year! A group of Eagles and I ran a 5K at midnight through the streets of downtown Ann Arbor. Many of us carried the American flag and people were chanting “USA, USA, USA”! I can’t imagine a better way to start the new year than with my Eagle family! “
How Do You Serve Your Community?
“I am the Team RWB Detroit Chapter Captain. Since getting involved with Team RWB, my involvement in the Veteran space has expanded greatly. I was kindly encouraged to launch the Detroit Chapter with little idea of what the future held. Organic relationships are growing as a result of the events we hold for our members.
I am also incredibly excited to serve in another capacity; sitting on Michigan’s Women Veterans Advisory Board. I will be one of six women providing policy makers guidance on state policies that affect women Veterans. This is a new role for me, but one RWB has prepared me for.”
What Inspires You?
“I am inspired by people who try. You don’t have to be perfect or be the best, just try.”
How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?
“Team RWB has opened so many doors that I closed years ago, I am so grateful for the role the organization has played in my life. I am in a constant search to give back to my community, especially in the Veteran space. Team RWB is so much more than an organization of like-minded people – we are a family!”
What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?
“Don’t hesitate! Team RWB inspires, motivates and connects people. What I love most about Team RWB is that there is no obligation or expectation. We simply ask members to show up! There is no one size fits all, there is no pressure, and all opportunities are managed at the local level. Team RWB listens to their members and the organization fosters its own growth. Team RWB has lived up to its mission for me personally, my life has truly been enriched through the connections I’ve made and the experiences I’ve had with fellow Eagles.”
