Motto: “It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.”

Why Did You Join Team RWB?

“I was missing the camaraderie I had in the Navy. I had a good career after the military but was kind of going through the motions. I didn’t have anything to drive me everyday. Service is a major part of the military and I didn’t have that anymore. So I decided to join the team and serve veterans.”

What has Been Your Favorite Event or Experience with Team RWB?

“I really enjoy our socials, especially coffee socials. It’s really nice to sit around with a cup of coffee and hear stories from others. Who they are, where they came from, and their military experience. It’s easy to get a different perspective on military service hearing from others. This is especially true for me, I served in the Navy, but most of the veterans in the area were Air Force or Army.”

How do you serve your community?

“From the background. As an Air Traffic Controller, I work odd hours and can’t attend a lot of functions, especially on the weekend. As Communications Director for the local chapter of Team RWB, it is easy for me to set up events of the website, communicate via email or Facebook, or prepare weekly and monthly Newsletters to reach out to our members.”

What Inspires You?

“Those that strive to serve others like we do as members of this organization. Taking time out of your day to do something for others is the purest form of service. Those people that spend their weekends volunteering at a local shelter, helping a veteran move, or just sitting to have a cup of coffee and listening to someone’s story instead of simply relaxing on their day off is very inspirational.”

How Has Team RWB Impacted Your Life?

“It has given me drive and a sense of purpose. Everyday I wake now, I try to ask myself what I can do for Team RWB. How can I make another veteran’s life more enjoyable? I didn’t have this before I joined the Team. It’s not to say I didn’t have an enjoyable life prior to joining, but it is absolutely more fulfilling serving others.”

What Would You Say to Someone Who is Thinking of Joining Team RWB?

“I would say, “Drop everything, grab a laptop or phone and join the Team! Here, you can use my phone.” If you would like to serve other veterans, you will not find a better organization to do so. Team RWB is the best volunteer led organization I have ever been a part of. “Let me tell you about my story and the way Team RWB has changed my life…””
