Week 8: Old Glory Relay 2018
In Week #8, Old Glory has traveled for 51 Days, 3,454 Miles, and through 21 states (MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MN, IA, NE, KS, CO, NM, AZ, UT)
We are only NINE DAYS out from the finish line in San Diego! This year’s Old Glory Relay presented by Microsoft has been epic in so many ways and the finale is sure to continue the tradition.
Did you know Old Glory got to spend ten days in Colorado in total? Through the Garden of the Gods and the Rocky Mountains, there has been no shortage of amazing views or Eagle Fire along the way.
Old Glory started Day 50 with a sendoff from our friends in Telluride, Colorado. A fantastic team from the Denver chapter moved the flag 64 miles up and over the Lizard Head Pass (10,222 feet elevation!). Most inspiring was the 24 miles cranked out by David Ortiz on the handcycle.
Hitting another landmark on our way to San Diego, Day 51 of the Old Glory Relay ended in the Four Corners, simultaneously visiting four states – Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.
As we get close to the end of the Relay, we can’t help but think of all of the Starbucks coffee that kept us going. And to keep us caffeinated to the end, we are psyched about their Veterans Day promotion. From now through the end of the Relay, any purchase of a Veterans Card or eGift Card will support the Team RWB mission. Five dollars from each card purchased will be donated to TeamRWB, Team Rubicon and The Mission Continues.
During the CSU Matching Challenge from October 22 – November 2, Steve Majewski raised 1,563 dollars…and has raised 6,808 dollars since 9/11. Alan Olsen is a very close second. He joined OGR in Colorado and raised 1,535 dollars during the Matching Challenge. They will both receive the Team RWB Nike Jacket.
There are four states left in Old Glory’s journey before our finale on Veterans Day aboard the USS Midway. We’re so thankful to all of you who lift Old Glory and help us connect communities across the nation, supporting veterans with every step. Remember, it’s not too late to sign up or to donate – join us today.
