Running for a Cause: Patrick’s MCM Story

Every now and then, we encounter individuals whose unwavering dedication inspires us to push our own limits. Patrick Bouchane, a civilian with a deep admiration for the military, is one of those people. He was our top Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) fundraiser in 2022, raising $2,607.01 for our mission.

Patrick has been a runner for years but his passion for running took on a new dimension when he encountered Eagle Patty Wagner who introduced him to Team RWB at a race in Olcott, NY, in 2016. Drawn to the camaraderie and support of Eagle Nation, Patrick decided to join Team RWB in 2017. It marked the beginning of a transformative journey, as he discovered the power of community in inspiring him to take on greater challenges.

With a personal goal to complete a marathon in every state, he seized the opportunity to run the Marine Corps Marathon in 2019 as part of Team RWB's fundraising team. The experience ignited his passion for the MCM and solidified his commitment to Team RWB.

Patrick fondly recalls the first time he ran the “People’s Race” in 2019, despite the relentless rain that accompanied him for the first 14 miles. From the heartwarming fist-bumps with Marines at the race's start to the invigorating run along the iconic National Mall, Patrick soaked it all in. He recalls the kindness of a stranger who offered him pickle juice when cramps threatened to derail his progress at mile 15. However, it was fellow Eagle, Tim Hurley, who truly epitomized the spirit of Team RWB. Recognizing Patrick's struggle, Tim selflessly slowed down, helped him Beat the Bridge, and ran by his side until they crossed the finish line together. After that experience, Patrick was hooked!

He ran the MCM virtually in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, he decided to run it in-person again as a member of Team RWB’s MCM fundraising team. As previously mentioned, he ultimately became our top fundraiser last year, raising an incredible $2,607.01.

Reflecting on his fundraising success, Patrick shares three valuable tips for anyone looking to make a difference: encouraging friends and family to inquire about corporate matching programs, hosting fundraising events, and asking loved ones to share your fundraising story with their own networks.

While Patrick may not be running the Marine Corps Marathon this year due to a family commitment, he will be with his fellow Eagles in spirit as they tackle the race. He encourages others to join the Team RWB fundraising team and experience the transformative power of running for a cause.

Patrick Bouchane's journey with Team RWB at the Marine Corps Marathon showcases the incredible potential within each of us to make a difference. From his humble beginnings as a solo runner to becoming a top fundraiser and inspiring presence within the Team RWB community, Patrick exemplifies the strength and determination that lie at the heart of the MCM.

By joining the Team RWB fundraising team, you too can find purpose, camaraderie, and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of veterans. Lace up your running shoes, embrace the challenge, and discover the extraordinary journey that awaits you with Team RWB at the Marine Corps Marathon.
